The Story of This Tea

Xing Ren Xiang, also called Ju Duo Zai 剧朵仔, is one of the classic Phoenix Dan Cong cultivars, known for its almond-like fragrance. The leaves are small with fine serrated edges, often nicknamed “little shrimp” for their shape.

This 2025 harvest was thoroughly roasted to eliminate any green flavour, producing a tea that highlights the full depth of its cultivar character. The tea soup is golden and oily, thick in body, and marked by a distinctive cong wei (old tree woody and natural mountain aroma).

Where do I start? This tea is really nice! Calming, but also energising. The smell is the first thing you notice. Almond flowers moving into orchid, apricot kernel, and light honey. The taste is like a warming marzipan followed by a sharp edge and a mineral background.

I brewed this in a 100ml Zhuni Chaozhou teapot. 7g of tea. Flash steeps. 2.5L of water later the tea is still coming. Delicious and value for money. Do yourself a favour, drop your Starbucks tea and replace it with this.
