About This Tea

Ya Shixiang, also known as Duck Sh*t Fragrance, is one of the most distinctive and famous cultivars in the Phoenix Dancong family. Its unusual name comes from a story in Xiaping Kengtou Village, Fengxi District, Chaozhou. The original mother tree, now 78 years old, grows at 900 meters and belonged to tea farmer Wei Chunshi. It was planted in local “duck sh*t soil”, actually yellow loam rich in mineral chalk.

When locals praised the tea’s outstanding aroma and flavor, they asked for its name. To protect the plant from being stolen, the grower jokingly called it “Duck Sh*t Fragrance.” The name stuck, and it has since become legendary among Dancong lovers.

The dry leaves are tightly twisted into compact strips, dark green in color, with thick and robust leaf material. When brewed, the liquor is bright and clear, releasing a powerful, layered aroma.
